6 Days Tanzania Migration Safari (May – June)

6-Day Tanzania Migration Safari

This 6-day Tanzanian safari takes you to the spectacular Western Corridor of Serengeti National Park, a region defined by the Grumeti and Mbalageti Rivers. These life-giving waterways support a thriving, year-round population of wildlife, including large herds of zebra and wildebeest, as well as an impressive concentration of predators. The area is also rich in birdlife, making it a rewarding destination for both wildlife enthusiasts and bird watchers.

Between May and July, the Great Migration typically moves through this corridor. During this time, vast herds gather strength before attempting one of the migration’s most dramatic moments—crossing the crocodile-infested waters of the Grumeti River. It is a powerful and unforgettable spectacle of nature in motion.

Day 1: Arusha to Tarangire National Park

In the morning, you will be collected from your lodge in Arusha by your personal safari guide. We depart for Tarangire National Park, travelling across gently rolling Maasai plains dotted with scattered acacia trees. Along the way, you may see Maasai people in their vibrant traditional dress walking along the roadside, riding bicycles, herding cattle, or driving donkey carts.

Tarangire National Park, renowned for its large elephant herds, is also home to a wide variety of wildlife. From the open roof of our safari vehicle, we will explore the seasonal swamps, vast savannah, and the life-giving Tarangire River, seeking encounters with zebra, wildebeest, buffalo, elephant, giraffe, and many more species. With luck, we may even glimpse a lion stalking its prey or a leopard resting in the branches above.

After an extensive game drive, we transfer to your accommodation for dinner and a relaxing overnight stay in a spacious and comfortable room—perfect for dreaming of Africa’s wild cats.

Day 2: Serengeti National Park (Central)

After breakfast, we journey toward the fertile highlands where wheat, coffee, and corn are cultivated by the Iraqw people. As we pass through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, we pause to admire the breathtaking views of the Ngorongoro Crater before continuing onward to Serengeti National Park, arriving around midday.

Serengeti National Park, the largest national park in Tanzania, covers an astounding 15,000 square kilometers of diverse landscapes, including grassy plains, swamps, lakes, savannah, and mountains. It is world-famous for the Great Migration of wildebeest, zebra, and antelope. Depending on the season, we may witness thousands of animals moving in search of fresh grazing and water.

Following an extensive afternoon game drive, we continue to the Seronera Valley for dinner and an overnight stay at your luxury camp.

Day 3: Serengeti Western Corridor

After breakfast, we head toward the Western Corridor, approximately a 1.5-hour drive.

During late April, May, and June, vast herds of wildebeest, accompanied by zebra, eland, and gazelle, gather in the Western Corridor south of the Grumeti River. Predators such as leopards and hyenas are often nearby, while giant Nile crocodiles wait in the river. During river crossings, many animals risk their lives—creating one of nature’s most dramatic spectacles.

Beyond the wildlife, the sweeping landscape beneath an endless sky offers a profound and unforgettable safari experience.

After our game drive, we proceed to your accommodation for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 4: Serengeti (Central)

Today is dedicated to further game drives in the Serengeti. Later in the afternoon, we return to Central Serengeti.

The Serengeti is home to an abundance of wildlife, including impala, buffalo, crocodiles, and hippos. It is best known for its great migrating herds of zebra, antelope, and wildebeest, whose movements are guided by rainfall patterns and vary from year to year. In November and December, the herds move south to the grassy plains. During the long rainy season from April to June, they head north again.

In addition to the migration, we may encounter resident predators such as leopards, cheetahs, and lions as they play their vital role in the circle of life.

After a rewarding day of wildlife viewing, we return to your camp for a hearty dinner and another peaceful evening under the brilliant African night sky on the “Endless Plain.”

Day 5: Serengeti to Ngorongoro Crater

After breakfast, we depart Serengeti National Park and travel to the Ngorongoro Crater.

At first sight, the Ngorongoro Crater appears like a lost world. Enclosed by steep volcanic walls lies a pristine wilderness of sweeping savannah, acacia woodlands, lakes, and swamps. The crater was formed two to three million years ago when a massive volcano erupted and collapsed.

The descent into the crater is an adventure in itself. On the crater floor, you will find large concentrations of wildebeest, zebra, gazelle, and over 500 bird species. This is also one of the best places in Tanzania to see the endangered black rhino, often spotted grazing on the open plains.

After a full afternoon exploring the crater, we transfer to your accommodation in Karatu for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 6: Lake Manyara National Park to Arusha

After breakfast, we drive to our final safari destination—Lake Manyara National Park. Located approximately 120 km west of Arusha, this relatively small yet diverse park is named after the shallow soda lake that covers around 70% of its surface area.

The lake attracts thousands of flamingos as well as over 500 other bird species. During our game drive, we may encounter monkeys, giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, buffalo, and elephants. With luck, we may also spot the park’s famous tree-climbing lions.

Lake Manyara is known for its varied landscapes, from open grassy plains to primate-filled woodlands and babaobab- tted escarpments.

After a final memorable game drive, we return to Arusha in the late afternoon, bringing our epic safari adventure to a close—leaving you with unforgettable memories of Africa’s wild beauty.
